Aspiring sports professionals can earn a sport and recreation management (SRM) degree in Des Moines from the University of Iowa at the Iowa Center for Higher Education. Courses will be taught in a number of formats, including on-campus in Des Moines, online, and hybrid offerings. On-campus support ranges from academic counseling to help with field-experience placement (practica and internships). Additionally, students will have the chance to gain relevant experience by working in the Des Moines Student Activities Center on campus.

This unique opportunity provides options and flexibility to better serve University of Iowa undergraduate SRM students. The University of Iowa's Des Moines programs work in concert with the Iowa City campus to allow students the flexibility to take courses in one city while residing and completing internship or practicum experiences in the other. The program requirements are consistent, regardless of a student's campus location. Students with a degree in sport and recreation management can find a variety of career opportunities, including community recreation, intercollegiate athletic departments, high school programs, the commercial fitness business sector, as well as minor- and major-league sports teams. 

Students will also have the opportunity to pursue specialized coursework in one of the following areas:

  • Business studies
  • Coaching and sport instruction
    • Coaching certificate 
  • Communications, public relations/journalism
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Event management
  • Interscholastic athletic/activities administration
    • Interscholastic athletic/activities certificate
