The University of Iowa's Bachelor of Arts in Social Work in Des Moines is designed to prepare students for employment in social services in private, public, in-home, and community-based settings. Graduates have gone on to pursue careers in public welfare, child welfare, health, mental health, elderly services, and corrections. Students prepare to participate actively and effectively in community social-welfare issues and set a solid foundation for future graduate study. The program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
The Bachelor of Social Work program is a perfect fit for students who have earned their associate's degree or have completed two years of undergraduate coursework. The program is sequenced and begins each fall. Full- and part-time options are available.
All social work courses are taught in the classrooms at the Iowa Center for Higher Education in Des Moines. Other requirements are offered online or through a combination of classroom and online methods. Students do not need to travel to Iowa City for any courses, though it is an option for those interested.
