Testing Sites and Services

The Des Moines Testing Centers can accommodate any University of Iowa student including those in the Des Moines specific programs, online, or traditional UI students who are in the Des Moines area. 

Examination information is provided on your ICON course home page or on your syllabus, and covers exam type, when and where exams are taken, as well as instructions for off campus and Student Disability Services (SDS) testing. Instructors may administer exams themselves, have nonproctored exams, or use Exam Services to oversee proctored exams. If you cannot find exam information in your syllabus or on the ICON course home page, please contact your instructor or, 319-384-4800 for assistance.

Schedule Your Proctored Exam

To schedule your proctored exam:

Step 1: Go to your ICON course page Examination Information page.
Step 2: Choose a location for your exam.
Step 3: Follow the instructions based on the type of exam your course requires.


Step 1: Click Des Moines Self-Scheduler.
Step 2: Log in with your Hawk ID and password.

Keep the following rules in mind when you take your exam:

1. Only students taking an exam are allowed in the testing room with the proctor.

  • No visitors allowed, including children.
  • No food of drink allowed in the testing center.

2. You must provide a photo ID to the proctor to receive your exam.

  • The ID you present MUST have your photo on it.
  • Your ID will be scanned and returned to you.

3. The only items allowed at the testing table are your exams, writing instruments, and any approved aids.

  • Some courses/instructors allow specific materials (i.e. calculator, notes) to be used during the exam. Check your course materials before you come to see what, if any, aids you can use during the exam.
  • Any electronic devices must be turned off and placed in the provided storage space.
  • Don’t bring any personal items to the testing center that you don’t feel comfortable storing on the shelf.

MISCONDUCT will result in confiscation of your exam. Examples of misconduct include, but are not limited to, speaking to other students; looking at another's work; looking at notes, books or other materials not specifically allowed on the exam instructions.

DCE Exam Services can provide extended time and/or reduced distraction accommodations. If you have accommodations beyond extended time and/or reduced distraction, your SDS advisor and course instructor will assist you with the process.
